Amanda Sumner, DNP, APRN, FNP-C, PMHNP-BC
Dr. Amanda Sumner is an experienced Nurse Practitioner with nearly 15 years of diverse medical experience. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Johns Hopkins University and began her career as a Navy Nurse Corps Officer, serving at Naval Hospitals in Virginia and Washington in specialties including surgery, labor and delivery, and primary care.
After seven years of service, Dr. Sumner earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Washington and became a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner. Her work in primary care inspired her to specialize in psychiatry, leading her to complete a post-doctoral certificate from the University of Iowa and become a board-certified Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
For the past three years, she has provided outpatient psychiatric care for patients of all ages, treating conditions such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, and bipolar disorder. Dr. Sumner takes an integrative approach, blending medication management with psychotherapy, nutrition, exercise, and wellness practices—embracing the philosophy, “Let food be thy medicine.”
Now living in Mills County, Iowa, Dr. Sumner enjoys life on her family’s 32-acre hobby farm with her husband, a retired Navy Nurse Corps Officer, their children, and their animals.
Becki Wheeler
APRN, PHMNP
At Community Healthcare Partners, Rebecca provides behavioral health services to patients throughout the Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, and surrounding communities. Her approach to care is compassionate, collaborative, and empowering—helping individuals take an active role in their mental wellness and overall quality of life.
Rebecca has extensive experience supporting older adults and veterans, providing care that honors their life experiences while addressing the unique mental health challenges that can arise with aging and stage of life transitions. She works closely with individuals, families, and interdisciplinary teams to develop personalized treatment plans focused on medication management, education, and holistic support.
Throughout her career, Rebecca has also enjoyed leadership and mentoring roles, guiding nursing teams and fostering positive, supportive environments that enhance patient care.
Born and raised in central Nebraska, Rebecca is dedicated to serving the communities she calls home and is committed to improving access to quality, compassionate mental health care across the region.
Christabel Alphonso, FNP/PMHNP
Christabel Alphonso is a Board-Certified Family Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. She is originally from Nigeria and moved to the United States in 1999. She started her career in nursing as an LPN in 2006 and has worked in different capacities, from Home Health Nurse to Rehab to Med-Surg Nurse. She obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree (FNP track) from Creighton University in Omaha, NE, in 2018 and completed the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Program from Liberty University in VA in 2023. She currently serves as an Active-Duty Air Force FNP and recently joined CHP as a part-time FNP/PMHNP. She has been married to Dala Alphonso for 27 years and is blessed with 3 daughters - Tehillah 25, Davina 21, Alexea 13, and a stepson Carlton 26. Her favorite thing to do is lounge on the couch and hang out with friends and family. She also loves traveling (but hates the packing and unpacking part of this).
